Espacio Open is a cultural center located, since 2009, in the Old Biscuit Factory of Bilbao (Artiach Factory) on the island of Zorrotzaurre. In this gem of industrial heritage, we receive an average of 110,000 visitors annually and develop diverse projects with positive social impact where technology, contemporary culture, and creativity converge. We like to preserve the past, prototype the future, and enjoy the present. In addition to having launched two reference markets in Bilbao, Open Your Ganbara and Open Your Sormena, Espacio Open has a digital creation and culture center, Fab Lab Bilbao. What do we do at Espacio Open? ➔ Precursor of programs and festivals such as: Maker Faire Bilbao: International Festival on Creative Technologies organized since 2013 in Bilbao. Centered around DIY culture, it is the oldest and longest-running maker movement in Europe. Programs like Egingura: encourage artists, design and creation professionals to engage with Fab Lab Bilbao. Creation Residencies: by invitation or through the Maker Ekintzailea call, they respond to professionals seeking to explore or deepen their understanding of maker culture and Fab Labs. ➔ Advises and accompanies public and private entities on how to incorporate technological tools in artistic contexts. ➔ Partners in European projects within the Horizon 2020, Erasmus+, and Creative Europe Framework Programmes for Research and Innovation: currently in T-Factor, Eureka, and Distributed Design. We have a space to relax, have a snack or daily dish, and socialize. The Jardín Secreto café is a green space in Bilbao that you can enjoy by the river, open from Monday to Sunday from 10 am to 10 pm (*summer 12 am). In our cultural center, we have two commercial spaces: Vintage Bilbao for vintage items, and Design Corner for local design professionals. Shop here!
